Gildas and Masaya, founders of Kitsuné
This is about music, all kinds of music, whether made with guitars or machines, it’s about attitude, personality and character...
Kitsuné, the Franco-Japanese company has been cleverly bridging music, fashion and design since 2002 with their first record release Funkin for Jamaica by ex-Dee-Lite DJ Towa Tei. The young and unique brand Kitsuné is the brainchild of Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki who not only direct operations of the company’s music, and fashion (retail and design) operations, but are also a fine pair of DJs – an activity that’s proven essential in running what is arguably the most exciting record labels in the world today.
Since the original Funkin debut, Kitsuné have gone on to sign cutting-edge acts like Digitalism, Klaxons, Simian Mobile Disco, and Hot Chip all having released massive tracks on the Kitsuné Music label, which now has over 70 releases as well as a series of very popular Maison Kitsuné compilations.
After consistently rocking the coolest parties from London to Tokyo via Reykjavik and New York, Gildas and Masaya are celebrating the release of their latest DJ mix album Paris with a very special CD launch party at Club Bonbon, Shanghai .
What is underground today will be mainstream tomorrow, and Kitsuné are here to prove it. At a time when so many record labels are closing down, Kitsuné’s turnover continues to grow and with without concessions towards commercialism.
The idea was always to reach as many people as possible with our open-minded conception of pop music and some original yet attractive sounds. We have no qualms about merging the worlds of electronic & rock. This is about music, all kind of music, whether made with guitars or machines, it’s about attitude, personality and character... -Gildas.
2008 is already a banner year, and Kitsuné are celebrating the opening of their own retail shop in Paris as well as the release of their latest tracks by New Yorkers Fischerspooner and a brand new single by Cazals entitled Somebody Somewhere. It’s the continued success of the entire series of Maison Kitsuné DJ mix CDs, with eclectic mixes and mashups of rock, pop and electro that truly defines this quite undefinable duo, especially when they are behind the decks.
For more Kitsuné, check out their official website at www.maisonkitsune.fr where you’ll also find many of their singles and full-length CDs available for download. Or join their Facebook group to hear some of their latest tracks.
The founders of Kitsuné, Gildas and Masaya take a break from the daily operations of their record label and fashion brand to cut loose at a very special event marking the release of their latest DJ mix CD Paris at Shanghai Club Bonbon on Friday May 2, 2008.

Celebrating 10 Years of Tiefschwarz
We don’t have a musical background, we have a party background...
Tiefschwarz created much buzz amongst clubland’s cognescenti at the biggest parties of last month’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, headlining with Ewan Pearson at Suite Lounge, utterly destroying Nikki Beach, and then laying it all on the line at the prestigious OM Records party OM:Miami at the Ultralounge. 2008 has started off with quite a bang for the brothers from Stuttgart, and they make their return trip to Shanghai on Friday, April 25.
A lot has happened in the past 2 years since Tiefschwarz first visited China. After a stellar Shanghai event at Club Bonbon in June 2006 the Schwarz brothers Ali and Basti went on to complete some very high-profile remixes of some very high-profile artists including Depeche Mode’s “John The Revelator”, Roxy Music’s “Rain Rain Rain”, and Madonna’s “Get Together”.
They also released the “Fabric 29” mixed CD for the London superclub’s record label. But the biggest development for brothers whom derive their name Tiefschwarz as an amalgam of their family name and the German word for “deep”, was the creation of their very own recording label - SOUVENIR. It’s a project that Ali and Basti had excitedly planned for years and has finally taken off, releasing some of the best new dance music to hit the decks in years.
2007 marked the tenth anniversary of Tiefschwarz in the music business celebrating the 1997 release of their first single “24 Seven” a deep house track on the German label Continuemusics. To celebrate, the brothers released “10 Years of Tiefschwarz” a retrospective DJ mix and collection of Tiefschwarz tracks remixed by heavy-hitters Carl Craig, Samim, Drama Society and Shonky.
To top it all off, Tiefschwarz were also nominated for a Grammy in 2007 under the Best Remix category for the Buick Project remix of their track “Damage” which featured vocals by Tracey Thorn.
The road to the Grammys was full of twists and turns for Tiefschwarz. Ali and Basti Schwarz created Tiefschwarz out of a passion nurtured since 1990 from their first experiences as DJs at the now legendary clubs in Stuttgart "ON -U" (1990 – 1993) and "Red Dog" (1993 – 1997). They moved into bigger clubs and were among the first promoters to attract the biggest names in US house - Mike Dunn, Tony Humphries and Masters at Work all played their nights in Germany. Those deep, housey influences were plain to hear in their early production work too, as they started to tout their name by remixing tracks.
These days, Tiefschwarz are rooted in Berlin's counterculture and continue to mastered a deep, driving sound that is firmly rooted in techno, house and electro, providing unforgettable soundtracks to clubnights across the globe.
Tiefschwarz plays on Friday, April 25th at Club Bonbon, Shanghai for a very special Godskitchen Worldwide event.

Germany's No. 1 house DJ
The Germans tore up crowded dance floors once again at Miami’s Winter Music Conference last month with DJ sets by Tiefschwarz at OM:Miami and Tom Novy at the famed Subliminal Records Twisted Circus Party, The Skybar, and the grand-daddy Club Azuli Miami Party at Dream. The relentless beats came from the likes of Germany’s veteran party DJ Tom Novy whom, with over 15 years of DJ experience, is set to make his first appearance in Shanghai on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Club Bonbon.
Tom Novy’s rise to the top of Germany’s house music scene was built upon his ability to break traditional formulaic approaches to spinning a single-genre set and to get to the core of the matter at hand: To get down!
I started my DJ-career with HipHop. Then, at the beginning of the 90s, I discovered Techno. Presently, House is my passion. Even today I'd love to combine all kinds of different styles in my sets but that's become almost impossible because people always expect one certain sound from me. Unfortunately, thinking in rather narrow categories has definitely become more popular. Many people refuse to combine things even though Hip Hop, House, and also Techno have far more in common than it may first appear. The globalisation has reached a state at which it doesn't really matter anymore whether you're playing in New York, Amsterdam or Tokyo. You almost always meet the kind of people whose first priority is to have fun.
In 2005, after 10 years in the recording business, Novy broke new ground with the dancefloor stormer “Your Body”, a cheeky track previously released in Germany in 2004 on vinyl only. It was picked up by the hottest DJ in Australia, Andy Van, and soon shot to #1 on the ARIAN (Australian) charts (MOS Australia). “Your Body” saw the same success in South Africa (EMI), holding on to the top 5 for 12 weeks in a row. With the support of every major radio station and MTV in the UK, Ministry of Sound UK saw TOP 10 success with this massive hit! Additional international labels licensed and released “Your Body” around the world and the track continues to enjoy both club and radio airplay.
Following the success of YOUR BODY, Tom released a follow up single in early 2006, “Take It” eventually landed at 37th position in the UK and in the top 30 in Australia. It sat on the charts in Germany for 36 weeks in a row, peaking at #5 on the DDC charts. Kosmo Music in Germany followed with the release of two more Tom Novy compilations, Niveau Nouveau Mix Compilation and the Niveau Nouvea Ibiza Sessions. And most recently the long-awaited Tom Novy album was completed: SUPERSTAR hit the shelves! This album includes all of Tom’s hit singles as well as some new club stormers.
Persistence, steadiness, and creativity are three virtues which are hard to find in any industry, especially in the German dance-scene. Since his first single "I House You" in 1995, Munich DJ and producer Tom Novy has managed to grow in all directions with remarkable consistency. Novy creates a unique and extremely danceable sound that ranges between house, dance, and funk. This process is most evident on his debut album "My Definition" on which hit-after bone-rattling-hit were churned out.
Tom’s single "Pumpin", recorded together with Eniac scored a number 19 in the English charts in June 2000. This was a good year for remixes as well, working with such luminaries as Tom Jones & Mousse T. ("Sexbomb"), Lou Bega ("Mambo #5"), and Eddie Amador ("Rise"), which added to his international reputation.
Even though House with all its varieties is clearly predominant for the most part of Tom Novy's work, he has become far more than an average Dance-producer. His musical vision on "My Definition“, Tom’s first album released in 2000- reaching from hits like "Superstar", one of his most successful singles ever, to chart-busters like "Get Down With the Funk" - definitely doesn't run out as quickly. “Superstar” has officially been named one of the 10 biggest songs in dance music history (Raveline -2005) Funkiness is really the term to describe Tom Novy's music at the moment. "Musically I've always been walking along borderlines, not willing to settle for one certain style" says Tom.
Tom Novy’s premiere appearance in Shanghai is on Friday, April 11th at Club Bonbon. Be sure to visit http://www.clubbonbon.com for more information and check http://www.urbanon.com for a chance to win free tickets to this very special event.

Winner: Best Breakthrough Artist - House Music Awards
The role of the DJ is changing...
It's been a stellar start to 2008 for Tom Neville, who recently completed whirlwind tours in Australia and New Zealand. Besides the release of "Sick", Neville has been spending a lot of time running his record label Love Minus Zero which he founded in 2005. The label now has a half-dozen releases to its credit including tracks by electro-rocker King Roc, tech-houser Tommy Four-Seven, and minimal techno producer Chaim Avital. A handful of new releases are also scheduled through 2008.
DJ/Producer Tom Neville celebrates the release of his latest single "Sick" on dance music download site Beatport.com
Neville was already known for his remixes of r&b tracks like 'Milshake' by Kelis, and Khia's 'My Neck, My Back (lick it)'. He also remixed the Bodyrockers 'I Like the Way', and Mylo's huge hit 'Destroy Rock & Roll' prior to launching his own label. More recently he's lent his magic remix touch to Dave Spoon's seminal hit "This Machine", 'Don't Be Shy' by Spektrum, and some new mixes for the indie bands like "The Feeling", or cult sensation "Mika", and NME Award-winners The Ting Tings.
Neville’s work with indie rock bands is no one-off, he's recently been working on a new band project called "Colouring In" with Henry Bennett and Alex Horkey. “The role of the DJ is changing.” Says Neville, and the new band project allows Colouring In to bring a much-needed “theatrical element” to electronic music.

“I don’t think many DJs see themselves as musicians because a set of decks is not technically speaking an instrument, but with technology evolving it can now be used like one. But then there have always been DJs who think they are rockstars anyway.”
